Obituaries

Hazel Marie Davis, 87, of Cresco, IA passed away on January 26, 2010 at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA.

Hazel was born on February 19, 1922 at home in Fillmore County, MN to Tollef and Olena (Hovey) Borgan.  She attended a rural school named Hovey, and was a lifelong member of Saetersdal Lutheran Church. 

She married John W. Davis on October 25, 1940 in a double wedding with her brother Olaf and his wife Jean at Saetersdal.  John and Hazel lived in the Davis family farm north of Lime Springs most of their married life.  Hazel was an active partner on the family operation. She retired in 1996 after 20 years at the Evans Memorial Home, where she was a dedicated and caring nurses aide.

Hazel was a loving and unselfish mother, putting the needs of her children before her own.  She enjoyed embroidery, quilting, and gardening.  Hazel was an avid card player and continued that passion in her year at Evans Memorial Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Olaf and Foster, a sister LaVonne Keune, and a daughter Kathleen Sobolik.

She is survived by her daughter Dianne (Gary) Kiefer of Ottumwa, IA, a son Thom of Johnston, IA, a son-in-law, Dick Sobolik of Cresco, IA, a brother Gaylord (Patsy) Borgan of Lime Springs, IA, and a sister-in-law Jean Mundfrom of Cresco, IA.  She is also survived by grandchildren, Lisa (James) Herd, Mark (Jane) Linderbaum, Aaron (Mya) Linderbaum, Kristi (Jeff Reininga) Kiefer, Brad Kiefer, Nichole (Dan) Stabile, and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Adam Herd, Jack and Sam Linderbaum, Beck Linderbaum, Madison, Kaylee and Hayden Reininga, and several nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by family and friends, including the staff and residents of Evans Memorial Home.
