Ruth Ryan
Ruth Ryan, 94 of Cresco, IA passed away peacefully of natural
causes on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, IA. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September
10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Cresco, IA.
Ruth Valborg Ryan was born November 19, 1913 in Winneshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Edward
and Anna Caroline Albertson. She grew up on her parent's farm and attended country schools near Spillville, IA. She married
Clement G. Ryan on June 10, 1937 at St Agnes Church at Plymouth Rock. They began farming and raising their family of three
children in Winneshiek county near Plymouth Rock until 1944 when they moved to their present farm north of Cresco, IA where
she resided until January of 2008 when it became necessary for her to move to the Cresco Care Center.
She and her husband loved farming where they raised purebred Herefords and Spotted Hogs.
Sometimes they would take a break from farming and go fishing or visiting with family and, when relatives and friends came
to visit, they never went home hungry! Her favorite pastimes were working in her flower gardens and crocheting many afghans
and other items. She, also, took up Folk Art Painting, producing many wonderful pictures which were given to family and friends
as gifts.
Ruth is survived by one daughter,
Edna (Kenneth) Huss of Jesup, two sons, Wayne (Suzanne) Ryan and Norbert Ryan of Cresco; six grandchildren, Ron (Cindy) Huss,
Debra (Steve)Youngblut, Stacey (Lisa) Ryan, Brenda (Donnie) Blaess, Chad Ryan and Laura Ryan; seven great-grandchildren and
many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in
death by her parents, her husband in Jan. 2000, four sisters, Oline in infancy, Sara (Ivar) Hellen, Emma (Oliver) Hellen,
Amanda (Benjamin) Thompson and four brothers, Louis, Ted, Joseph, and Orlando.
